There are a lot of interesting activities scheduled throughout the month of <\/span>June 2018<\/b> \u2013 cultural and religious festivities, sport tournaments or village fairs like the extraordinary <\/span>Potato Fair in Sa Pobla<\/b>. Whatever the event, it\u2019s your opportunity to discover the authentic Mallorcan lifestyle, off the beaten track.<\/span><\/p>\n

June starts with the already mentioned <\/span>Potato Fair in Sa Pobla<\/b> (<\/span>Fira nocturna de la patata<\/span><\/i>, 1 and 2 June 2018<\/b>). Potato cultivation is an important economic factor in the village of Sa Pobla and it\u2019s surroundings. The annual fair is an homage to the tasty little tuber. Starting at 19h30, the bars and restaurants on and around <\/span>Pla\u00e7a Major<\/span><\/i> will be serving more than 90 sumptuous potato-based dishes, deserts, local wines and many other treats. There is also live music and show cooking, and all shops will be open for shopping around.<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>3 June<\/b>, numerous <\/span>Corpus Christi<\/b> festivities will take place throughout the island. Particularly interesting processions will be held in <\/span>Palma<\/b> and <\/span>Pollen\u00e7a<\/b>. In Palma\u2019s famous <\/span>cathedral La Seu<\/b>, there will be a solemn mass at 18h, followed by a procession of the Sacred Sacrament. During the procession, the <\/span>Lledania<\/i><\/b>, a metal cross decorated with 1200 wax flowers will be led through the streets surrounding the cathedral. At the occasion of the festivities, the square around the cathedral and the town hall square will be decorated with thousands of colourful flowers.<\/span><\/p>\n

In <\/span>Pollen\u00e7a<\/b>, there will also be a solemn procession during which the “<\/span>Ball de Aquiles<\/span><\/i>” dance will be performed. The “Dance of the Eagles” is an ancient tradition dating back to the 16th century. The procession starts at 19h.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also on <\/span>3 June<\/b>, the international triathlon competition <\/span>TOTAL TRI MALLORCA<\/b> will take place in <\/span>Cala Millor<\/b>. This well-known race has been running for 8 years now. It\u2019s an extraordinary opportunity for all sports fans for admiring international individual triathletes and teams during this ambitious challenge.<\/span><\/p>\n

For <\/span>hikers<\/b> there will be a special highlight on <\/span>4 June<\/b>. Starting at 10h, the tourist information office in <\/span>Puerto Pollensa<\/b> offers a guided hiking excursion to the <\/span>Boquer Valley<\/b> (Vall de B\u00f3quer). The <\/span>Vall de B\u00f3quer<\/span><\/i> is a beautiful valley in the foothills of the <\/span>Tramuntana Mountains<\/span><\/i> on the <\/span>Formentor<\/span><\/i> peninsula. The valley is very popular with hikers, because the flora and fauna there are simply unique. The landscape is wild and stunning, the whole valley smells of rosemary and other herbs. A reservation is required 2 days in advance at one of the tourist offices in Puerto Pollensa.<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>5 June 2018<\/b>, an evening handicraft market will also take place in <\/span>Puerto Pollensa<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

From <\/span>9 to 10 June<\/b>, <\/span>Son Servera<\/b> will be dedicated to the arts and crafts. Starting at 20h on Saturday, during the “<\/span>Nit de l’Art<\/span><\/i>“, the streets of the town will be transformed into an open-air artist\u2019s work shop where numerous artists exhibit their paintings, sculptures and other works. There will be also a market for handicrafts, live music and lots of tasty food. \u00a0A very special event will be the spectacular <\/span>light show in the Esglesia Nova<\/b>. On Sunday from 9h to 14h, the village fair will be celebrated with numerous attractions such as a vintage car exhibition, livestock fair, live music and exhibitions.<\/span><\/p>\n

A very different kind of fair will take place in <\/span>Selva on 10 June<\/b>. The <\/span>Fira de ses Herbes<\/span><\/i> is all about herbs and medicinal plants. Learn everything you always wanted to know about the cultivation and use of herbs.<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>13 June, Art\u00e0<\/b> will be celebrating the festival of <\/span>Saint Anthony of Padua<\/b>. All lovers of Mallorcan folklore should not miss this event (<\/span>Fira de Sant Antoni de P\u00e0dua<\/span><\/i>), because during the solemn festivities, the <\/span>dance of the cavallets and the lady<\/b> will be performed. In this dance, whose origins probably go back to 16<\/span>th<\/span> century Catalonia, colourfully dressed children carrying a horse figure on their shoulders perform several dances with precisely defined movements. In the evening, there will be a solemn procession through the streets of the village.<\/span><\/p>\n

For music lovers, the <\/span>Jazz Festival in Dei\u00e0<\/b> is a very special treat. Renowned national and international artists will perform concerts at the magnificent historic “Son Marroig”, the former country estate of Archduke Ludwig Salvator. Concerts will take place on 14, 21 and 28 June. The <\/span>Son Marroig<\/b> mansion is situated between Dei\u00e0 and Valldemossa and is in itself worth a visit. From the estate, you can enjoy spectacular views of the coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

Away from the arts and folklore, we go back to sports. From <\/span>17 to 24 June<\/b>, the “<\/span>Mallorca All Open Tennis<\/b>” event will take place at the <\/span>Tennis Club Santa Ponsa<\/b>. Several internationally renowned tennis stars, including Angelique Kerber \u2013 former number one ranked – and Caroline Garcia, currently seeded number eight in the world rankings, will take part in the WTA grass court tournament. <\/span><\/p>\n

Port d’Alc\u00fadia<\/b> will be celebrating the patron saint of fishermen, <\/span>St. Peter, on 29 June<\/b> (<\/span>Fira de Sant Pere<\/span><\/i>). \u00a0There will be a procession along the <\/span>Passeig Mar\u00edtim<\/span><\/i> promenade, followed by a sea procession through the bay. The celebrations will last a whole week, during which the port of <\/span>Alc\u00fadia<\/b> will be transformed into a large festival area. Numerous religious and cultural activities will make for a lively and joyful atmosphere. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On <\/span>30 June,<\/b> a day trip to <\/span>Palma<\/b> will be particularly interesting, because on this day you can watch the famous changing of the Guard of Honour. In this popular event, the 47th Infantry Regiment recreates the historic changing of the guard of the Palma Volunteer Regiment. The parade takes place at 12h in front of the <\/span>Palacio de la Almudaina<\/b>, followed by the changing of the guard at 12h30. Arrive early in order to get the best experience because the performance is very popular.<\/span><\/p>\n
