IRONMAN 70.3 takes place again in Alcúdia on the 12th of May 2018
Get ready for one of the most exciting sporting events in Europe – the little romantic Mallorcan town Alcúdia will host again the IRONMAN 70.3 challenge for triathletes.

The Ironman 70.3 on the Spanish island of Mallorca is the world’s most important 70.3 event. Athletes from all over the world – not only from Europe – will travel to the little island in the Mediterranean Sea in order to enjoy this extraordinary experience, a perfect combination of an exciting race and an unforgettable holiday.
There will be 50 qualifying slots available for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2018, taking place in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The swim course
What could be better than starting the swim course on a pristine sandy beach near a picturesque Mallorcan port? Port d’Alcúdia is a nice little town in Northern Mallorca, surrounded by the mountains of the Serra Tramuntana (which is, by the way, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the cultural landscape category). Being in Alcúdia is like being in paradise. The turquoise sea, white sandy beaches and charming little streets in the historic city center make for an extraordinary holiday experience.
The bike course
The one-loop bike course takes you through the beautiful landscape of the Alcúdia area and the surrounding mountains, starting and finishing at the port of Alcúdia. From Alcúdia, the 90 kilometer course takes you first along the bay of Pollensa to Puerto Pollensa (Port de Pollença) and then turns inland for a breathtaking tour through the Mallorcan mountains, including a scenic climb to the 515 m high Coll de Femenia, located between the Lluc Sanctuary and Caimari.
It’s an interesting mix of fast flats and intense ascents, taking you through the lush landscape of Northern Mallorca. There are breathtaking views at every turn and road surfaces are excellent.
The run course
The run course is as well a loop course and it takes you along the wonderful Alcúdia bay. The course is 21,1 kilometers long and leads through the picturesque streets of Alcúdia before finishing on the beach area.

Alcúdia is a little medieval town known for its picturesque historic city center. Carefully restored Roman houses, medieval ramparts, and narrow little streets add to the highly charming atmosphere of this Mallorcan gem. Alcúdia is located on a peninsula, between the bays of Pollensa and of Alcúdia.
There are several beautiful beaches in the Alcúdia area, like Platja des Morer Vermell Beach, a beach with fine with sand and crystal clear water, making it a perfect spot for snorkeling. Or the 7 kilometers long Playa de Alcudia Beach with its wide range of bars and restaurants.
There are also more natural beaches, like the LLenaire Beach. Here you can relax amidst the sand dunes and listen to the sound of the sea and the birds.
But Alcúdia offers more than nice beaches. For those who are interested in historic and cultural sightseeing, there is plenty to explore, such as the 16th-century urban places or the 19th-century neo-gothic church of Sant Jaume.
Nature lovers will find their piece of paradise in the nearby nature preserves of S’Albufera and S’Albufereta.
The whole area is perfect for all kind of sports: cycling, walking, tennis and of course swimming, sailing, kite surfing … There are also some Golf courses nearby. The Alcúdia peninsula and the surrounding Serra de Tramuntana mountains are also renowned for the many hiking trails, where you can enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Mediterranean island.

How to get there
Alcúdia is a one-hour drive away from Mallorca’s international airport in Palma de Mallorca. There are several ways to get to Alcúdia from there. The simplest way is to take a taxi at the Palma airport.
Most people will opt for a rental car. There are many rental agencies at the airport.
It is also possible to take the bus for traveling to the Ironman 70.3 event. From the airport, you need to take first the bus to the center of Palma (Plaza de Espana), from there, it’s only 300 meters to the bus terminal which is where buses to Alcúdia will leave.
